EXPERIENCE

With over three decades of law enforcement experience, Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn has the experience our community needs to fight crime and keep our neighborhoods safe. He has focused resources where they are needed most and expanded the use of technology to ensure that deputies in the field have the tools they need to keep us safe.

As our Sheriff, he oversees an 1,100+ member agency, with a $119 million budget, and is responsible for managing 1,400+ inmates at the Monroe County Jail and the Monroe Correctional facility. He has led the upgrading and modernization of all specialized Monroe County Sheriff’s Office teams – SWAT, Bomb Squad, Hostage Recovery, SCUBA and K-9.

LEADERSHIP

Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn has provided strong and effective leadership on issues of crime and safety in our community. He has fought for tougher laws to protect our children from sex offenders, guided construction of hundreds of new jail cells, and built strong, effective and supportive partnerships with state and local police agencies to keep our neighborhoods safe.

He oversaw a much-needed new jail expansion and established the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office park and marine headquarters at the Port of Rochester. He is a partner with the New York State Police and the Rochester Police Department in Project IMPACT, aimed at reducing drug- and gang-related violence in our city, and the Community Outreach Project TIPS (Trust, Information, Programs & Services), working in city neighborhoods with residents to share information to help put residents in touch with services they need and help law enforcement fight crime. The Sheriff’s Office is also an active member of the Greater Rochester Area Narcotics Enforcement Team (GRANET) and the Joint Terrorism Task Force. Sheriff O’Flynn also instituted Active Shooter Response training for Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies and other local law enforcement agencies.

RESULTS

Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn has expanded the D.A.R.E. program and community policing initiatives, and developed strong working relationships with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. Under his leadership, crime rates in Monroe County have continued their downward trend – down 3.8% from 2006 to 2007, the most recently available data.
